Alzheimer's Iron Soap Dish Project

Alzheimer’s Iron is a multi-step, cross-generational art project that will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The project is made up of four steps: production of artwork by elderly community members, interpretation and rendered sculptures by iron castors, and gallery shows that culminate in an auction of the featured art pieces. Concurrently we will be educating the community (and the project participants) about Alzheimer ’s disease, creating art with older individuals and metal casting.

In this division of the Alzheimer’s Iron Project, we are looking at Alzheimer’s as washing away or cleansing. Cast Iron artists from around the nation are invited to cast and finish a soap dish(es), which will be auctioned off with proceeds going directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.
If you are willing to donate to the Alzheimer’s Iron project you would be responsible for casting one-three cast iron soap dishes and finishing them by August 15th and shipping them to:

Rosemarie Oakman

10 Cindy Ln.

Wappinger’s Falls NY 12590

The soap dishes should accommodate an average household size bar of soap.

You can incorporate other mediums into your soap dishes but they should be primarily cast in iron.

All the soap dishes will be waterproofed upon arrival; they will then be photographed and displayed on our website ending in an auction in November.
Artists are encouraged to send us a link to their website or blog, which we can then link to the page featuring their soap dish.
